In recent years I have heard (relatively) new phrases like "cognitive dissonance". I wondered..? what exactly does that mean? So I looked it up. This is what I found:
Cognitive Dissonance: Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation. It therefore occurs when there is a need to accommodate new ideas, and it may be necessary for it to develop so that we become "open" to them. Neighbour (1992) makes the generation of appropriate dissonance into a major feature of tutorial (and other) teaching: he shows how to drive this kind of intellectual wedge between learners' current beliefs and "reality".
Beyond this benign if uncomfortable aspect, however, dissonance can go "over the top", leading to two interesting side-effects for learning: ? if someone is called upon to learn something which contradicts what they already think they know — particularly if they are committed to that prior knowledge — they are likely to resist the new learning. Even Carl Rogers recognised this. Accommodation is more difficult than Assimilation, in Piaget's terms. ? and—counter-intuitively, perhaps—if learning something has been difficult, uncomfortable, or even humiliating enough, people are less likely to concede that the content of what has been learned is useless, pointless or valueless. To do so would be to admit that one has been "had", or "conned". END

Regarding the comments below.., I agree. Everyone is a product of their environment [first].
Had I been born into a black body in a cannibal tribe in New Guinea..? then surely I would be a product of that cultural environment and, in early development, would no doubt "see" nothing wrong with eating another human. BUT.., there could come a day when I might doubt what I was taught. Then my troubles would begin.
Let's talk some odds for a moment. Bring all this back into context.

Al Qaeda is not and never has been a "terrorist organization."

The London Bombing of 7/7/05 is evidently a set-up to implicate Iran as the patsy in order for the Neo-Cons to make the case for a new war on Iran.
Madsen reports that "if it is discovered that RDX/C4 was used in the bombing, the Neo Cons will point to allegations that Iran possesses a disproportionate amount of RDX/C4. The Neo Con spin machine will then rapidly switch from Al Qaeda to Iran" in order to drum up public support for a War on Iran.

Make sure you are buckled up in your seat belts, there will be roadblocks and checkpoints to make sure you comply. It is for the children.
If you are an airline employee, lighten up for the holiday, you can always look for a job tomorrow. Maybe you could transfer over to a Federal Airport Security Screener job. Big demand for those jobs and you don't have to be smart.
If you are a Halliburton employee, then celebrate, you probably have a raise coming from the Iraqi contract windfall.

The CIA has been involved in developing sophisticated mind control programs since the early 1950s. MKULTRA is the most infamous of these, yet thanks to a virtual media blackout on the subject, very few people are aware of any of these disturbing programs. In a rare recent article in the Washington Post (see below), a few of the many disturbing aspects of MKULTRA are discussed. The article is an obituary for John K. Vance, a member of the CIA inspector general's staff in the early 1960s who discovered that the CIA was secretly conducting illegal mind control activities in MKULTRA.
Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), government documents dealing with MKULTRA and other secret mind control programs are now available to the public. In 1973, tipped off about forthcoming congressional investigations, CIA Director Richard Helms ordered the destruction of all MKULTRA records. Though only a small fraction of the original documentation, these surviving documents reveal highly disturbing operations in which unknowing citizens were subjected not only to LSD, but also to radiation, lethal biological agents, and even torture for reasons of "national security."

"The concepts involved in manipulating behavior are found by many people both within and outside the Agency [CIA] to be distasteful and unethical. Nevertheless, there have been major accomplishments both in research and operational employment. Many additional avenues to the control of human behavior have been designated under the MKULTRA charter, including radiation, electro-shock, and harassment substances. Some activities raise questions of legality implicit in the original charter. A final phase of the testing places the rights and interests of US citizens in jeopardy. [The MKULTRA program] has pursued a philosophy of minimum documentation in keeping with the high sensitivity of the projects. Some files contained little or no data at all. There are just two individuals who have full knowledge of the MKULTRA program, and most of that knowledge is unrecorded."

John K. Vance, 89, a member of the Central Intelligence Agency inspector general's staff in the early 1960s who discovered that the agency was running a research project that included administering LSD and other drugs to unwitting human subjects, died May 27 of respiratory arrest.
He died at the Wilson Health Care Center of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg.
Code-named MKULTRA (and pronounced m-k-ultra), the project Mr. Vance uncovered was the brainchild of CIA Director Allen Dulles, who was intrigued by reports of mind-control techniques allegedly conducted by Soviet, Chinese and North Korean agents on U.S. prisoners of war during the Korean War. The CIA wanted to use similar techniques on its own POWs and perhaps use LSD or other mind-bending substances on foreign leaders, including Cuba's Fidel Castro a few years after the project got underway in 1953.

Remembering The Lessons Of Germany's Past

For years, I struggled to comprehend how the good (sic*) people of Germany could allow someone such as Adolph Hitler to lead them into what became World War II. After all, before Hitler's rise to power, Germany had a rich Christian heritage. The Reformation out of the Dark Ages had its roots deeply imbedded in Germany and surrounding countries.

Last week, a comment appeared on the World Socialist Web Site describing the phenomenon of “Reality TV.” [“Reality television” and the American reality that produces it] There is another genre of network television drama that is every bit as psychologically and socially toxic. These are broadcast television series that openly serve a right-wing political agenda. I am referring to shows like JAG, which glorifies the military, and to the ubiquitous cop shows that now regularly top the ratings on network television.
The weekly Fox network television series entitled 24 is an extreme example of this genre. Its propaganda value is revealed in story lines that promote racist stereotypes of Arab Americans and other ethnic groups. Even more politically insidious, this year’s season is replete with scenes of torture administered to various suspected terrorists or their associates by US government operatives. 24 offers such stomach-turning scenes every week. These sequences no doubt reflect, first of all, the sadistic imaginations of those producing the program. They are also designed to shock and presumably appeal to the most backward viewers—a politically perverse example of the scenes that characterize a show like Fear Factor. Moreover, this systematic presentation of torture is intended to inure the population and convey the message that this barbaric treatment is somehow acceptable in the “global war on terror.”
Furthermore, the evisceration of education
fuses with the dumbed down escapism and fictions of television
to create a population addiction to and reliant on modern
civilization's new drug
of choice. In television,
the
Establishment and the government it owns
have found the most powerful tool at their disposal to control, condition and manipulate
a population to the dictates of power. Simply put, the
television
has become, in the span of a few decades, the fireworks erupting in the
wet dreams of every Joseph Goebbels
alive today, a propagandist's manna from heaven and the Establishment's
weapon of choice in the pursuit of mind control and thought
manipulation.

Journalist At the dawn of the nuclear age, an independent
Australian
journalist named Wilfred Burchett traveled to Japan to cover the
aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The only problem
was
that General Douglas MacArthur had declared southern Japan
off-limits,
barring the press. Over 200,000 people died in the atomic
bombings
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but no Western journalist witnessed
the
aftermath and told the story. The world's media obediently
crowded onto the USS Missouri off the coast of Japan to cover the
surrender of the Japanese.
Wilfred Burchett decided to strike out
on his own.
He was determined to see for himself what this nuclear bomb had
done,
to understand what this vaunted new weapon was all about. So he
boarded a train and traveled for thirty hours to the city of
Hiroshima
in defiance of General MacArthur's orders.
Burchett emerged from the
train into a nightmare world. The devastation that confronted him
was
unlike any he had ever seen during the war. The city of
Hiroshima,
with a population of 350,000, had been razed. Multistory
buildings
were reduced to charred posts. He saw people's shadows seared
into
walls and sidewalks. He met people with their skin melting off.
In the
hospital, he saw patients with purple skin hemorrhages, gangrene,
fever, and rapid hair loss. Burchett was among the first to
witness
and describe radiation sickness.
