In his essay on "Character" Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "A chief event in life is the day in which we have encountered a mind that startled us." I've had such days, many of them through encounters with Emerson himself, but never have I been startled or even remotely surprised by anything belched out by the Barbie and Ken assembly line of today's corporate mind-control media.

George Orwell wrote that people who neither read nor ask questions will ultimately lose all desire to question "Big Brother." What is so frightening as we descend into the new world order fascism is not that we no longer read -- it's that we no longer can read.

Researchers estimate as many as 30 million Americans -- many of them college graduates -- cannot read. They're unable to comprehend news stories or even instructions. They said they were "stunned," but could offer no explanation for the steep drop in literacy. I don't know what's more depressing -- that Americans can't read or, after studying the phenomenon, researchers lack the critical skills to discern why.

Today, as in Orwell's 1984, the sound and fury of Big Brother's repetitive visual stimuli has apparently crippled our ability to think critically. If it's not on television, it isn't happening. Even then, we can't be sure of what is true until the paid TV "analyst" or pundit with the biggest stash of "Newspeak" talking points wins the debate. When there's no one left to tell the people the truth, Orwell said, "the people will believe what the media tells them they believe."

         Often sincere, honest talk radio personalities and show hosts cannot make sense of the news they see and hear. Many will state this on their shows. Why is this? They are striving to fit shocking current events and new laws they see into the paradigm they were raised with and believe in. No one can remotely hope for any new wisdom to flow into their cerebral cortex, by trying to drive the square peg of today's control paradigm into yesterday's round hole of Constitutional law. Everything happening today is quite far outside the paradigm they knew while growing up.

         The bulldozer work on America's freedom is all part of a carefully planned and scheduled demolition. You can't build a new home on a piece of property with a burned out house, unless you bring in the bulldozer first to clear the land. You can't bulldoze an occupied home without first disarming and kicking out the occupants. This is effectively taking place right now all across America, with freedom and free speech under daily assault. The puppeteers are disarming Americans mentally first, and then physically later IF they can get away with it. One more major attack will give the government the excuse to finish the job.

It is a date that I can never forget, a day that was to change my life forever. Each year as the anniversary of my wounding in the war approached I would become extremely restless, experiencing terrible bouts of insomnia, depression, anxiety attacks and horrifying nightmares. I dreaded that day and what it represented, always fearing that the terrible trauma of my wounding might repeat itself all over again. It was a difficult day for me for decades and it remained that way until the anxieties and nightmares finally began to subside.

As I now contemplate another January 20th I cannot help but think of the young men and women who have been wounded in the war in Iraq. They have been coming home now for almost three years, flooding Walter Reed, Bethesda, Brooke Army Medical Center and veterans hospitals all across the country. Paraplegics, amputees, burn victims, the blinded and maimed, shocked and stunned, brain-damaged and psychologically stressed, over 16,000 of them, a whole new generation of severely maimed is returning from Iraq, young men and women who were not even born when I came home wounded to the Bronx veterans hospital in 1968.

I, like most other Americans, have occasionally seen them on TV or at the local veterans’ hospital, but for the most part they remain hidden, like the flag-draped caskets of our dead, returned to Dover Air Force Base in the darkness of night as this administration continues to pursue a policy of censorship, tightly controlling the images coming out of that war and rarely ever allowing the human cost of its policy to be seen.

Mosul, Fallouja, Basra, Baghdad, a roadside bomb, an RPG, an ambush, the bullets cracking all around them, the reality that they are in a war, that they have suddenly been hit. No more John Wayne-Audie Murphy movie fantasies. No more false bravado, stirring words of patriotism, romantic notions of war or what it might really mean to be in combat, to sacrifice for one's country. All that means nothing now. The reality has struck, the awful, shocking and frightening truth of what it really means to be hit by a bullet, an RPG, an improvised explosive device, shrapnel, a booby trap, friendly fire. They are now in a life-and-death situation and they have suddenly come face to face with the foreign policy of their own nation. All the conditioning, all the discipline, shouting, screaming, bullying and threatening verbal abuse of their boot camp drill instructors have now disappeared in this one instant, in this one damaging blow. With interest, I read you article regarding border/travel policy changes coming in 2007 for Europe.

You may know, we in the U. S., are suffering a virtual onslaught of illegal immigrants.., estimated in the millions annually. Has this to do with Washington, DC policy? It would appear so being as the border states governments claim there is nothing they can do.

I have spoken to U. S. Border Patrol agents [who would not say a word {for fear of losing their jobs} unless they remained anonymous] "off record". They are frustrated. They claim their work is no more than an exercise in futility. They "capture"/detain illegals, document them and send them back only to see the same faces 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months later. A literal revolving door policy.

Now I am hearing it has gotten worse.., the policy has become "catch and release".

An English billion is 1,000,000,000,000, whereas an American billion is 1,000,000,000. An American trillion is the same as an English billion and an English trillion is a million million million.

However, with the Yankeefication of British things the English have started to use the American definition now, instead of the English one.

How many Americans have "suspected ties to terrorist groups" and thus deserve "eavesdropping" as deemed appropriate by the Bushcons? It depends how you define "terrorist group." In Bushzarro world, "insider threats" emanate from the American populace, not al-CIA-duh terrorists, or rather a small number of Americans who are vocally opposed to the Iraq invasion and occupation. As we now know, the Pentagon is in the business of collating "raw, unverified information picked up by the military services on suspicious activities that could involve terrorist threats," called "Talon reports," according to Walter Pincus of the Washington Post. "The Pentagon acknowledged last week that the Talon database contained reports on peaceful civilian protests and demonstrations that should have been purged long ago under Defense Department regulations." In short, to protest against the "war" is to engage in terrorism and we know what the Bushcons do to people who are considered terrorists.

In recent years I have heard (relatively) new phrases like "cognitive dissonance". I wondered..? what exactly does that mean? So I looked it up. This is what I found:

Cognitive Dissonance:
Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation. It therefore occurs when there is a need to accommodate new ideas, and it may be necessary for it to develop so that we become "open" to them. Neighbour (1992) makes the generation of appropriate dissonance into a major feature of tutorial (and other) teaching: he shows how to drive this kind of intellectual wedge between learners' current beliefs and "reality".

Beyond this benign if uncomfortable aspect, however, dissonance can go "over the top", leading to two interesting side-effects for learning: ? if someone is called upon to learn something which contradicts what they already think they know — particularly if they are committed to that prior knowledge — they are likely to resist the new learning. Even Carl Rogers recognised this. Accommodation is more difficult than Assimilation, in Piaget's terms. ? and—counter-intuitively, perhaps—if learning something has been difficult, uncomfortable, or even humiliating enough, people are less likely to concede that the content of what has been learned is useless, pointless or valueless. To do so would be to admit that one has been "had", or "conned". END

Devvy and MOST aware people in this country truly believe our problems have been caused because we have drifted away from the U. S. Constitution and to cure our ills.., we have to return to it.

Sixteen provisions of the USA Patriot Act expire Dec. 31 if not renewed by Congress:

Section 201 - Gives federal officials the authority to intercept wire, spoken and electronic communications relating to terrorism.

Section 202 - Gives federal officials the authority to intercept wire, spoken and electronic communications relating to computer fraud and abuse offenses.

Subsection 203(b) - Permits the sharing of grand jury information that involves foreign intelligence or counterintelligence with federal law enforcement, intelligence, protective, immigration, national defense or national security officials

Subsection 203(d) - Gives foreign intelligence or counterintelligence officers the ability to share foreign intelligence information obtained as part of a criminal investigation with law enforcement.

Section 204 - Makes clear that nothing in the law regarding pen registers - an electronic device which records all numbers dialed from a particular phone line - stops the government's ability to obtain foreign intelligence information.

Section 206 - Allows federal officials to issue roving "John Doe" wiretaps for spy and anti-terrorism investigations.

Section 207 - Increases the amount of time that federal officials may watch people they suspect are spies or terrorists.

Section 209 - Permits the seizure of voicemail messages under a warrant.

Section 212 - Permits Internet service providers and other electronic communication and remote computing service providers to hand over records and e-mails to federal officials in emergency situations.

Section 214 - Allows use of a pen register or trap and trace devices - a device that records the originating phone numbers of all incoming calls on a particular phone line - in international terrorism or spy investigations.

Section 215 - Authorizes federal officials to obtain "tangible items" like business records, including those from libraries and bookstores, for foreign intelligence and international terrorism investigations.

Section 217 - Makes it lawful to intercept the wire or electronic communication of a computer hacker or intruder in certain circumstances.

Section 218 - Allows federal officials to wiretap or watch suspects if foreign intelligence gathering is a "significant purpose" for seeking a Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act order. The pre-Patriot Act standard said officials could ask for the surveillance only if it was "the" sole or main purpose.

Section 220 - Provides for nationwide service of search warrants for electronic evidence.

Section 223 - Amends the federal criminal code to provide for administrative discipline of federal officers or employees who violate prohibitions against unauthorized disclosures of information gathered under this act.

Section 225 - Amends FISA to prohibit lawsuits against people or companies that provide information to federal officials for a terrorism investigation

The much-belated, poll-prompted outcry of a few U. S. elected officials against the widespread use of torture by the Bush administration -- following years of silent acquiescence in the face of incontrovertible evidence of deliberate atrocity -- is a welcome development, of course. But it has left an even more sinister aspect of Bushist policy untouched, one that likewise has been hidden in plain sight for years.

On Sept. 17, 2001, President George W. Bush signed an executive order authorizing the use of "lethal measures" against anyone in the world whom he or his minions designated an "enemy combatant." This order remains in force today. No judicial evidence, no hearing, no charges are required for these killings; no law, no border, no oversight restrains them. Bush has also given agents in the field carte blanche to designate "enemies" on their own initiative and kill them as they see fit.

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington D. C. is 80.6 firearm deaths per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our nation's capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington D. C.

The media couldn’t have made a bigger pig’s ear of the white phosphorus story. So before moving on to the new revelations from Falluja, I would like to try to clear up the old ones.

There is no hard evidence that white phosphorus was used against civilians. The claim was made in a documentary broadcast on the Italian network RAI, called "Fallujah: the Hidden Massacre". It claimed the corpses in the pictures it ran "showed strange injuries, some burnt to the bone, others with skin hanging from their flesh … The faces have literally melted away, just like other parts of the body. The clothes are strangely intact." These assertions were supported by a human rights advocate whom, it said, possessed "a biology degree".(1)

I too possess a biology degree, and I am as well-qualified to determine someone’s cause of death as I am to perform open-heart surgery. So I asked Chris Milroy, professor of forensic pathology at the University of Sheffield, to watch the film. He reported that "nothing indicates to me that the bodies have been burnt." They had turned black and lost their skin "through decomposition". We don’t yet know how these people died.

But there is hard evidence that white phosphorus was deployed as a weapon against combatants in Falluja. As this column revealed last Tuesday, US infantry officers confessed that they had used it to flush out insurgents. On Tuesday afternoon, a Pentagon spokesman admitted to the BBC that white phosphorus "was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants."(2) He went on to claim that "It is not a chemical weapon. They are not outlawed or illegal." This denial was accepted by almost all the mainstream media. UN conventions, the Times asserted, "ban its use on civilian but not military targets."(3) But the word "civilian" does not occur in the Chemical Weapons Convention. The use of the toxic properties of a chemical as a weapon is illegal, whoever the target is.

Last night I tuned in the nightly national news on ABC. I rarely do this but, with things developing as quickly as they are, I am starting to consider monitoring the mainstream news more closely. We are being "noticed"/warned.

For months I had been hearing/reading about the trouble in which General Motors finds itself. Last night, ABC reported GM will be closing 9 plants which will effectively evaporate 30,000 jobs. Workers at the OKC facility were in shock as was Oklahoma's governor. Three more plants are to be closed in Canada. Reportedly GM has lost billions this past year and their credit is now "junk".

The report continued saying, Ford will be making similar announcements, soon, also. How far behind will be Chrysler announcements?

This, of course, was/is disturbing news as it was once said, "As General Motors goes.., so goes the country." Lee Iacocca [former president of Ford Motor Co. and former CEO of Chrysler] said of GM.., "it is so large, it is a country unto itself." [Iacocca has recently come out of retirement and has been seen doing national TV commercials for Chrysler/Daimler.]

Like a footnote.., it was added; old, established companies [paying high wages to long-term employees and massive retirement/pension plans {including medical}] CANNOT compete with the new companies [that do not have these debt/burdens -{ never mind foreign economies}].

But more disturbing to me was ABC's report at the end of the broadcast regarding China.., specifically what is being taught in public schools.

Today, both here in the United States and around the world, we are in danger of losing one of our most precious resources. Without most people’s knowledge, it is being systematically eliminated through legislation, stripped away through training and conditioning that begins at an early age in the home and in schools, and eroded by social programming through the government, media and television. You may think to yourself that this is a ridiculous suggestion. Thank-you for proving that very few recognize what has happened, and what this means for civilization as we know it. To prove this point, one must first understand what a real man is; not according to men, but according to God. Let’s begin in Genesis, where we should.

How many of you so-called men out there rule over your wives, as God said you should? This does not mean that you should be anything other than loving to your wives, but who really controls your household? Who decides what the children will be taught? Who arranges for their spiritual education? Who drives household policy, discipline, etc.? Who is in charge in your bedroom? Who leads your family to God? Who do you know that stands up against injustice, or is fighting to return us to God’s Laws (rather than man’s illegal laws)?

If you did not answer ‘I do’ to ALL of the questions above, you are not a real man in God’s eyes.

The government of the United States, by Law was to always maintain a three year mixed- grain survival storage for every man, woman, and child in the United States.

Like most Laws of the land, the politicians never took heed as to why our wise ancestors had this reserve requirement established. It was to make sure, that, in the time of a National Emergency, the people had the most important mainstay needed for survival individually and as a Nation.

Remember, the people make the Nation, the Nation does not make the people.

In the 1960's and 1970's the different political administrations of Washington, D.C. walked away from sanity and started to give the surplus grains which where in elevator storage all over the country, to other nations, such as the Soviet Union, India, etc.. This continued over two decades, until the elevators were empty and the reserve of grains that were in reserve as per a national crisis....were gone. Of course this was done as to enhance international "friendship" with other nations, even if those other nations were self-admitted enemies of the United States.

"Since 9-11, he has steadfastly refused to discuss the evidence of government complicity and prior knowledge. Furthermore, he claims that the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Bilderberg Committee, and Trilateral Commission are "nothing organizations." When critiquing poverty, he never mentions the Federal Reserve and their role in manipulating the cycle of debt. Noam Chomsky is often hailed as America's premier dissident intellectual, a fearless purveyor of truth fighting against media propaganda, murderous U.S. foreign policy, and the crimes of profit-hungry transnational corporations.

His books, so vociferously lauded in leftist circles, appear to be calculated disinformation designed to distract and confuse honest activists. Since the 1960's, Chomsky has acted as the premier Left gatekeeper, using his elevated status to cover up the major crimes of the global elite.

Had I been born into a black body in a cannibal tribe in New Guinea..? then surely I would be a product of that cultural environment and, in early development, would no doubt "see" nothing wrong with eating another human. BUT.., there could come a day when I might doubt what I was taught. Then my troubles would begin.
