Usually, I’m not a huge fan of mainstream US movies. Not only do they upset me by making ethically questionable behaviour such as adultery, casual sex and the use of violence as a means of conflict resolution seem normal, but they all too often are nothing more than a thinly veiled commercial for Jewish brands such as Dell, Starbucks and Ben & Jerry.

I learned something this weekend that was absolutely frightening. (like we didn't have enough to be concerned about!)
I traveled to Ft. Smith on Saturday to attend a seminar given by Dean Gotcher and Phil Worts. Mr. Worts is from the San Diego Police Department. (If you wonder what this has to do with HomeSchooling or public schools, just hang on.)
Mr. Gotcher is an expert on the Hegelian Dialectic and the brain washing of our society. He spoke in our town in January on "restructuring society".

In recent years I have heard (relatively) new phrases like "cognitive dissonance". I wondered..? what exactly does that mean? So I looked it up. This is what I found:
Cognitive Dissonance: Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation. It therefore occurs when there is a need to accommodate new ideas, and it may be necessary for it to develop so that we become "open" to them. Neighbour (1992) makes the generation of appropriate dissonance into a major feature of tutorial (and other) teaching: he shows how to drive this kind of intellectual wedge between learners' current beliefs and "reality".
Beyond this benign if uncomfortable aspect, however, dissonance can go "over the top", leading to two interesting side-effects for learning: ? if someone is called upon to learn something which contradicts what they already think they know — particularly if they are committed to that prior knowledge — they are likely to resist the new learning. Even Carl Rogers recognised this. Accommodation is more difficult than Assimilation, in Piaget's terms. ? and—counter-intuitively, perhaps—if learning something has been difficult, uncomfortable, or even humiliating enough, people are less likely to concede that the content of what has been learned is useless, pointless or valueless. But don't worry, getting arrested, imprisoned indefinitely without formal charges, and a 5 year wait before the secret tribunal trial per the Patriot Act is a breeze. It's that secret summary execution that should make you nervous.
Make sure you are buckled up in your seat belts, there will be roadblocks and checkpoints to make sure you comply. It is for the children.
If you are an airline employee, lighten up for the holiday, you can always look for a job tomorrow. Maybe you could transfer over to a Federal Airport Security Screener job. Big demand for those jobs and you don't have to be smart.
If you are a Halliburton employee, then celebrate, you probably have a raise coming from the Iraqi contract windfall.
If celebrating on any public property,
make no mention of religious ideals. Government is god there.
You will be aprehended.
Have your papers ready as you approach the holiday police checkpoints.
Don't criticize the President, or other government officials, you might be in violation of the Patriot Act and considered a possible terrorist.

Remembering The Lessons Of Germany's Past

For years, I struggled to comprehend how the good (sic*) people of Germany could allow someone such as Adolph Hitler to lead them into what became World War II. After all, before Hitler's rise to power, Germany had a rich Christian heritage. The Reformation out of the Dark Ages had its roots deeply imbedded in Germany and surrounding countries.

Despite my current address, I am old San Francisco. My family on both sides goes back to the 1850s. I know what the spirit of San Francisco used to be, and should be still. I was there in the seventies when you, yes, your very own Chronicle, exposed the CIA as being the biggest dope running organization in the world. It was, in my view, your finest hour. Because it's true, you know. I am acquainted with pilots who flew for Air America, who were flying illicit heroin into this country on behalf of the CIA. It was known in certain circles but no one had the guts to expose it, save you. What a hero newspaper! At least, back then, before you succumbed to a corporate buy-out.
