Cheney's Behind the Scenes Power
Someone ought to study the role the VP's Project for the New American Century (PNAC) cabal has played behind the scenes in selecting Bush 2 to get nominated and in determining the administration's policies.
The real accomplishment of VP Cheney's power is how he snagged the #2 slot for himself, and then populated nearly the entire National Security Council and national security mechanism with his picks. Absolutely amazing!
The other accomplishment is how his Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was able to coalesce around relatively radical militaristic ideals and yet gain significant prominance in the out-of-power party during Clinton's administration, to such a degree that "in-the-know" insiders like David Gergen were predicting as early as 1997 that the Cheney cabal was going to succeed at determining that GW Bush would become the GOP's 2000 nominee! An amazing piece of work!
